UK leavers after non-dom
The abolition of the UK non-dom regime (April 2025) has reopened the Switzerland file for thousands of London residents.
The end of non-dom
Since 6 April 2025 the UK replaced the non-dom regime with the FIG regime (Foreign Income & Gains), markedly less generous beyond the first four years of UK residence. For many, the Switzerland-UK calculation has flipped.
Deemed domicile and IHT
Exposure to UK Inheritance Tax for those resident in 10 of the previous 20 years requires active planning at transfer. We coordinate with the main specialised English firms.
Transfer to Ticino
Typical profile: family of Indian, Middle Eastern or continental European origin, resident in London for 10-20 years, seeking long-term tax stability. Ticino forfait, international English schools, Swiss banking in English: a natural set-up.
Timing
The UK tax year ends 5 April. To optimise the exit, the move to Switzerland is typically planned 6-9 months ahead, with split-year treatment.
